OIDs (Or: another RTFM question?)
Sol2 which states three steps with gcc 3.2, a 64 bit compiler: 1) make solaris 2) cd SunOS5; make package 3)pkgadd -d ipf.pkg. In the last step, I first installed ipfx and then ipf. I made the ipf.conf in /etc/opt/ipf/ as following, I couldn't initiate an ssh session from another machine on the local network.

September 9th Question
64 bit PCI. This post will try to explain why it can be so confusing trying to determine if a system has a 32 bit or 64 bit PCI bus. The 32 bit vs. systems (that meet my definition of a 64 bit PCI system) and I don't expect to see any soon. Maybe I'll try to explain why I don't expect them soon in another post.

32-bit and 64-bit under Solaris 2.7
Another tidbit to remember is that SGI's 64 bit pointer support is platform based, not CPU based and not OS revision based [once it was introduced that is. I think the original poster's question was really, "How do I determine my target ABI [32 or 64-bit]?" Paraphrased from IRIX 6.5's /usr/include/sys/types.h:

Yet another 64-bit question
This explanation is a bit strange because of the use of "inadequate" - but it fits a situation I have in mind. On IA32 processors, a floating-point value can have three precisions: it can be 32, 64, or 80 bits long. Depending on a processor setting, when the values are stored in a register they will either use the

QUESTION: 32-bit UIDs and Linux 2.3
SIGNED_32 32 bit LONGINT 64 bit Although we are not happy with the gap in the set of pervasive identifiers, this seems to be the most effective solution, because the Oberon-2 language report does not need any changes. But to avoid the import of SYSTEM, it would be good to have another pervasive integer type such as

Ultra 64 Questions
As the link in my original answer post pointed out : "WOW64 is the x86 emulator that allows 32-bit Windows applications to run on 64-bit Windows. WOW64 launches and runs 32-bit applications seamlessly. The system isolates 32-bit applications from 64-bit applications, which includes preventing file and registry

64 bit 604-pin Xeon Nocona
In two cases, I was starting with a 64-bit 96kHz mix, but using a full 64-bit plug-in chain in one case and a single 32-bit plug-in (but with 64-bit data paths inside it) in another. In the third case, I had to mix to 24-bit/44.1kHz for use with a standalone 24-bit application. This wasn'ta scientific test,

another question about precision
Of course, if you know you're using gcc, then you can get that anyway, using long long int for your 64-bit type. Carry on the addition is fairly easy even without a 64-bit type (I've found it actually to be slower to use a 64-bit type to handle addition carry, at least on my 32-bit processor, not sure about a

PCI question
We do already support platforms where Datum is 64 bits because pointers are 64 bits (eg, Alpha); on such hardware I think 64-bit OIDs would have near-zero added execution cost. But I'm troubled by the notion of having OID be 32 bits on some platforms and 64 on others. We have more than enough platform-dependency

Win32 app has problems running on 64-bit edition of XP ...
Al You will be stuck in the 32 bit mode until you upgrade your computer with a 64 bit capable CPU(Mother Board) and hardware. Then you can install the 64 bit. But if your present system is not 64 Bit capable then you cannot use the 64 bit Vista. You are stuck with the 32 bit install only -- Peter Please Reply to

another 64-bit question
If I kill the 64-bit browser, I can start a 32-bit one. If I then try to start a 64-bit Iceweasel from the K menu while the 32-bit Iceweasel is running, I get another 32-bit Iceweasel. You can try to use the -a switch to iceweasel such that the two iceweasels runs with different application-id's.

You can't implement a 64 bit OS efficiently on them. That means we're still a generation behind (as usual). The question is whether Windows 9x will have dispendes with 16 bit Another example: Sun's UltraSparc Processor. From what I understand, all of the Sparc processors have been 32-bit, and Solaris is 32-bit.

Another Vista Upgrade Question
It didn't seem to be encoded in the flags that I could see... drivers/pci/pci.c:read_pci_bases() looks like it tests to see if BARs are 32 or 64 bit, but does not save this information in pci_dev->resource[x], except in the fact that if fills in the topmost 32 bits of addr. Any ideas? Another idea is to just

32-bit and 64-bit under Solaris 2.7
And another problem (well-known?): __syscall returns 64-bit value but mmap returns 4-byte word in the td->td_retval[0]. Wrapper for mmap in libc casts 64 rv to 32 and alays gets zero. This leads to truncating to zero due to cast on 32-bit big-endian architectures. The solution is obvious - using constructs like

Using C to develop an OS
The 80386dx has a 32-bit data path, and the 80386sx has a 16-bit data path. The 486 has the same register set as the 80386dx (for the most part, I think there is another control register, but apps should never deal with that.) The Pentium (I think) has the same register set as the 486 but has a 64-bit wide data

16/32/64 Bit - WRONG QUESTION
So in a way, it doesn't make much sense buying another highend 32-bit cpu instead. I think that's what AMD is figuring as well, and we will not see any further development at the high end AthlonXP. Later with a 64-bit OS, you might see significant further advantages on old 32-bit apps.
